Remediation of groundwater and wastewater
with innovative ironoxide particles
The technology
Our innovation is based on the unique properties of the ColFerroX iron oxide nanoparticles. In aqueous suspension, they behave perfectly colloidal and can thus be injected into aquifers like a liquid over a radius of several meters.
Due to the subsequent contact with the groundwater and the sediment, the particles precipitate within a few days. The surface of the sediment is thus coated with iron oxides and the particles remain in the aquifer; they form a permeable barrier which adsorbs pollutant such as heavy metals (As, Zn, Ni, Pd, Cd, Cr, Cu, …) or cyanide.

The Team

Beate Krok (CEO)
Dr. Beate Krok is the Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining ColFerroX she worked as a PostDoc at the Universität of Duisburg-Essen on a variety of (bio)remediation projects. She holds a PhD in biomining from the Universität of Duisburg-Essen, where she also received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Water Science.

Sadjad Mohammadian (COO)
Dr. Ing. Sadjad Mohammadian holds a master degree in petroleum engineering and a PhD in hydrogeology. His specialty is flow and transport processes in subsurface, with a focus on environmental applications. In ColFerroX he leads field applications and international collaborations.

Rainer Meckenstock (R&D)
Prof. Dr. Rainer Meckenstock is Professor for microbiology and has long lasting experience in bioremediation and development of new environmental technologies. In ColFerroX he is responsible for developing innovative technology that offers environmental friendly solutions.
